The Shipping Federation of Canada’s annual conference, entitled “Outlook for Ocean Shipping,” was a resounding success, with over 100 people attending the business session and lunch combined.

The conference was opened by Dr. Henriette van Niekerk of Clarksons, who provided an overview on the challenges and opportunities facing ocean shipping, which focussed on the key themes of geopolitics, shipping markets, environmental legislation and big data.

This was followed by presentations from Keith Ball of Canpotex (who provided a commodity shipper’s perspective); Gary Fast of Canadian Tire (who provided an import retailer’s perspective); and Mark Szakonyi of JOC.com (who provided a container perspective).
