Dear Member,
Ships at ports across Canada are being asked to sound their horns at 12 noon (local time) on Friday, June 25 to the mark the 2021 edition of the IMO’s Day of the Seafarer.
The day is being leveraged as part of a worlwide effort to recognize the critical role that seafarers have played in keeping trade and essential goods moving throughout the pandemic, and to urge governments to ensure that domestic and foreign seafarers calling their ports are prioritized for access to vaccinations. Click HERE to read the International Chamber of Shipping press release on this subject.
We would ask members to share this message with the masters of ships that are expected to be in port on June 25th, with a view to encouraging a strong level of participation in this global initiative. We would also urge members to share photos, videos, etc. of the day via social media using the #ShoutOutForSeafarers and #FairFuture4Seafarers hashtags.
We look forward to a very noisy noon on June 25th at ports across Canada !
Sincerely,
Karen Kancens
Vice President
