On December 11, the Halifax Marine Pilots formally advised their employer, the Atlantic Pilotage Authority (APA), that they intend to form their own body corporate and transition from an employee pilot model to a service contract model. The Pilots’ intended time line is to make this transition upon the expiry of the current collective agreement that they have with the APA on Dec 31, 2024.
This intended change of employment model has the potential to alter the level of service and it has a strong potential to increase the overall cost structure of pilotage services in the port of Halifax.
The Shipping Federation will be highly engaged in this process as details become available in the weeks and months ahead and will keep members advised accordingly.
