Dear Member,

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) held its closing briefing yesterday.  Please click here for their presentation and below are the highlights from the meeting:

  • Radio messages:  These will continue to be disseminated via email and posted on the Seaway’s website.  However, only pertinent transit information will be read over VHF to the Mariner.
  • Communication during closing:  Additional closing briefings with Seaways, Pilotage, and Coast Guards in between industry calls would be beneficial in order to align and communicate traffic management plans.  This is expected to help promote coordination of communication re transit requirements to industry.
  • Shore power needs assessment:  In the next few weeks, SLSMC will reach out to industry via email (questionnaire/needs assessment) with a possible group discussion to obtain information on industry’s current and future needs for shore power in order to submit an application for funding from Transport Canada’s Green Shipping Corridor program.
  • Season extension:  The Seaway will be issuing a survey to determine the needs/wants regarding an extended Seaway navigation season.  Once results from the survey are  reviewed, the Seaway will organize a Seaway Customer Advisory Group meeting to discuss.
  • Voyage Information System –  Aligned with the issuance of the preliminary version of VIS Graphics, the Seaway will provide some training to explain the application and information available.

Please address any questions or comments to the undersigned.

Sincerely,

Cédric Baumelle
Director, Marine Operations
