Dear Member,

Please refer to the Seaway Notice No. 22 regarding the closing of the 2022 navigation season.

Montreal-Lake Ontario (MLO) Section
All vessels must be clear of the MLO section by 12:00 hours (noon) on December 31, 2022. Any transit of the MLO section after 23:59 hours on December 24, if permitted, will be subject to a prior written agreement. The Corporations have waived the operational surcharges from December 21-24.

Acceptance for transit through the MLO section under Special Agreement will be allowed only if, in the judgement of both Seaway entities, operating conditions permit.  There are no changes to the 2022 Special Agreement for the MLO or the Welland which will be made available mid-December.

Welland Canal
The Welland Canal will remain open until 12:00 hours (noon) on January 7, 2023, operating conditions permitting. Any transits of the Welland Canal after 23:59 hours on December 26, if permitted, will be subject to the prior written agreement.

Acceptance for transit through the Welland Canal under Special Agreement will be allowed only if, in the judgement of St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation, operating conditions permit.

Sault Ste. Marie Locks and Canal (United States)
Closing of the Sault Ste. Marie Locks (U.S.A.) is scheduled for January 15, 2023.

The St. Lawrence Seaway Management Corporation (SLSMC) will begin hosting closing teleconference calls with industry in early December leading up to the closing of the navigation season, details to follow.
