Dear Member,

Please see below a memo to the maritime industry from the Canadian Marine Advisory Council (CMAC). They have initiated a survey to identify and investigate fatigue in the maritime sector, with a view to using the statistics to improve legislation and practices in the maritime industry.  The survey is led by Dr. Desai Shan, Memorial University of Newfoundland, and would take 30 minutes to complete.  Please note that the survey will remain open until March 10, 2023.

In addition, they would like to invite up to 20 participants (on a first come, first served basis) for an online interview (via Webex or phone) and the interview is likely to last about 90 minutes.  The link to more information about the interview is accessible here as well as in the memo below.

Memo  to Marine Industry from CMAC Regarding Survey To Study Fatigue
Dear maritime industry stakeholders,

Are you a shipowner/ship manager/marine superintendent/union representative/ship agent/crew agent/crew supplier/marine consultant/health and safety officer, manager or consultant/maritime health and safety regulator, inspector or investigator and actively working in the shipping industry for one year or more in Canada?

If yes, we invite you to share your insights to identify the risk factors for fatigue, examine existing fatigue mitigation measures and strategies, and explore options regarding the use of fatigue management plans in the maritime sector.

Your input is very valuable for obtaining statistically significant results. Your input will help improve legislation, regulation, policy, and practices in the maritime industry. We thank you for your help!

Please participate in the survey by clicking here.

This survey will take about 30 minutes to complete.

This survey will remain open until March 10, 2023.

We also invite up to 20 participants for an online interview via Webex or over the phone. The participants will be selected for the interview on a first-come, first-served basis. The interview will take about 60 to 90 minutes, depending on how much information you would like to share with us. Audio recording is required for the interviews. Please note that the interview will be conducted in English ONLY, but translation services can be provided to anyone wishing to complete the interview in French. Survey participants interested in participating in a follow-up interview need to provide their email addresses. After completion of the survey, participants will be directed to a separate link, which will prevent your contact information (email address) from being associated with your survey responses.
