Dear Member,
As a follow up to the CL 11444, please find attached the interim orders as expected for Belledune, Sheet Harbour and Argentia. The Orders make pilotage compulsory in those ports for a one year period as Transport Canada assesses the future need for pilotage. Please note that for Sheet Harbour only, compulsory pilotage will be applicable for ships of 170m or more in length, tankers and liquid natural gas carriers.
Pilotage service will continue to be offered in these ports by the APA as usual.
Also, the Federation has learned that Transport Canada will be assisting the port of Summerside with conducting a risk assessment. The timeline and details are unknown at this time.
We will keep members updated as information becomes available.
Please direct any questions to the undersigned.
Regards,
Director, Marine Operations
