Dear Member,
The U.S. Coast Guard has proposed pilotage rates for the 2022 U.S. Great Lakes season, once again substantially increasing the costs of navigation in the Seaway. The Coast Guard attributes the increase to inflation and the addition of 2 regular and 3 apprentice pilots. The breakdown of increases to the hourly rates for each of the 3 pilotage districts (both Designated and Undesignated areas) are as follows:
D1, Designated : +2.25% Undesignated: +11.8%
D2, Designated: (negligible reduction), Undesignated: +15%
D3: Designated: +17%, Undesignated: +11.3%
We are examining the Notice of Proposed Rule Making (NPRM) and will revert with further comments shortly. The NPRM can be seen here.
Regards,
Chad Allen
