Dear Member,

To reduce ambient noise from ships anchoring, the Vancouver-Fraser Port Authority (VFPA) conducted a trial spanning eight months last year wherein they piloted the arrival and departure window for cargo ships anchoring around the Southern Gulf Islands.

The trial had requested ship operators to prioritize arriving at or departing in the region between 07:00 am and 11:00 pm to limit the nighttime noise disruptions from anchoring operations.  VFPA is now seeking feedback on the experience of prioritizing the daytime anchoring operations before implementing it as a permanent standard.  The five-minute survey is an opportunity to share your thoughts on the arrival and departure window and any benefits or challenges you experienced from avoiding nighttime arrivals and departures at Southern Gulf Islands anchorages over the trial period.

VFPA stresses that your input is important and will help them assess the operational viability of the arrival and departure window.

We appreciate your efforts to submit your feedback by April 19.

Please address any questions to the undersigned.
