Registration now open for Certificate in Marine Transportation

The Federation is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the next cycle of the Certificate in Marine Transportation, which is the educational program we offer in  partnership with Concordia University.

The program celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2025 and has produced over 230 graduates over the years.  It continues to serve as an excellent resource for anyone who is either starting their career in the marine industry, or is already working in the industry (or a related sector) and looking to update their skills or knowledge.

The program is made up of three courses, each comprising six lectures provided on a weekly basis.  Students have the option of attending the courses either in person (in our boardroom in Montreal) or virtually (via Teams) as per the schedule below.

Course Schedule

Course 1 – Introduction to Shipping (September 15 – November 10, 2026)

  • Focuses on the role of shipping in international trade, the factors influencing demand for shipping services, ship and cargo types,  ship registration and classification, international conventions and regulations

Course 2 – Ship and Port Operations (January 19 – March 16, 2027)

  • Focuses on how ships operate, the crew on board, shoreside activities at ports, Canadian regulatory authorities and requirements, the agent’s role as liaison between ship and shore

Course 3 – Commercial and Legal Aspects of Shipping (April 6 – June 1,  2027)

  • Focuses on the commercial environment in which shipping occurs, contracts of carriage, charterparty negotiations, freight rates, liability issues, applicable legal regimes

Registration and Additional Information

The Fall session begins on September 15th, so don’t delay if you are interested in learning more about the program or registering for the first course.  Registration is handled via Concordia University, our longtime partner in the delivery of Certificate, and can be accessed via the link below.

Tuition fees are $700 (plus tax) per course, with a 10 percent discount for returning Concordia students.  Additional details can  be obtained at this LINK
