Dear Members,
The Montreal Port Authority (MPA) has issued the attached instructions regarding their annual Gold-Headed Cane Award, awarded to the captain of the first ocean-going vessel to arrive to the Port of Montreal in the new year.
The following requirements must be met in order for a vessel to qualify:
- The vessel must arrive directly from an overseas port or a port located south of 30°N (latitude), without stopping at any other Canadian or U.S. Port north of that point;
- The vessel must be the first to cross the MPA’s northern limit after 00:00 hrs on January 1st and subsequently dock at the Port of Montreal.
