Dear Member,
The Pacific Pilotage Authority (PPA) has issued the attached notice to industry regarding LNG carriers navigating Chatham Sound within Compulsory Pilotage Area #4.
Although LNG carriers will not typically be expected to enter this area under normal circumstances, the attached operational procedures are to be followed in the event of a route deviation resulting from exceptional circumstances, in order to ensure safe operations and proper coordination among all relevant parties (namely PPA, BC Coast Pilots, Prince Rupert Port Authority, LNG Canada, and vessel agents).
The notice covers topics such as pilot boarding, anchorage constraints, tug escort needs, weather considerations, and emergency procedures. For full details, we invite members to refer to the attached document.
Sincerely,
Nathan Phillips
Operations Analyst
