Dear Members,
Per the attached notice from the Laurentian Pilotage Authority (LPA), pre-winter rules will apply for District 2 between Quebec and Les Escoumins, including the Saguenay River, starting from December 9, 2025, at 05:00 EST.
During the pre-winter period, two pilots are typically required on board ships, however the power of some vessels, their speed and the proper functioning of their internal cooling systems can allow for review of the dual pilotage requirement while maintaining safety of navigation during these periods.
We invite members to review the LPA’s attached policy with specific rules for identifying high-performance ships which can avoid the double pilotage requirement during the pre-winter period in District No. 2.
