Dear Members,
The Pacific Pilotage Authority (PPA) has issued the following notice to industry regarding an upcoming request related to inbound vessel transits on the Fraser River between December 29 and January 4, more specifically addressed to agents responsible for placing pilot orders.
The PPA will be participating in West Harbour Heroes, a television docuseries that follows marine professionals on the West Coast as they protect and serve the region’s coastlines. The filming is observational (not dramatized) and focuses on everyday operations as they occur.
If a suitable Fraser River pilot assignment is identified during this period, approval will be requested for one camera operator and one member of the PPA management team to accompany the pilot aboard the ship for the duration of the assignment. Filming will take place under PPA’s direction, with vessel safety and normal operations taking full priority at all times. Camera operators have received pilot ladder training from the PPA and will comply with all instructions from the vessel’s master and crew.
At the time the pilot is ordered, one of PPA’s team members will make the request with the ordering agent and seek confirmation on:
- the master’s approval for the additional personnel to accompany the pilot aboard;
- permission to film the vessel, bridge, and crew; and
- any areas that are off-limits for filming.
For any further questions or clarifications, please contact Louise Murgatroyd (lmurgatroyd@ppa.gc.ca) at the PPA.
Best regards,
Nathan Phillips
Operations Analyst
